About the piece

Beethoven set Friedrich Schiller’s poem “An die Freude” in the last movement of his Ninth Symphony, first played in Vienna in 1824, when he was almost completely deaf. Its tune is now the anthem of the European Union.

You play the whole theme, four phrases of steps and one small leap, in F major.
