Johannes Brahms wrote his sixteen Waltzes, Op. 39, for piano four hands in 1865 and dedicated them to the Viennese critic Eduard Hanslick; he later arranged them for piano solo as well. The fifteenth, in A-flat major, is the best loved of the set and is often simply called « Brahms’s Waltz ».
